Alexey Sizov is Appointed Head of Customs Law and Foreign Trade Practice

A year after joining the Korelskiy, Ischuk, Astafiev and Partners, Attorneys at Law, Alexey Sizov is appointed head of Customs Law and Foreign Trade Practice. During his year with KIAP, Alexey advised and successfully represented companies such as INDITEX, METRO Group, Schindler, Pitney Bowes etc. before customs and judicial authorities. He is currently actively occupied in advising Russian and foreign companies on the implications of Russia's accession to the WTO and the application of customs legislation in Customs Union members.

Alexey Sizov has an honours law degree from the Russian Customs Academy. For 2 years he served with the customs authorities as an in-house lawyer. For the next 6 years, he was a member of the Legal Directorate of OAO Severstal, in charge of legal support for the export/import operations and customs clearance of the company and its subsidiaries.

Alexey has a good, long track record of out-of-court settlements and litigation, including actions against the customs authorities regarding customs valuations, customs refunds, and safeguards against administrative sanctions for breach of customs regulations. He has authored a number of publications and commentaries in the media on the subject of customs law and Russia's accession to the WTO. He contributed to the findings of the RSPP (Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs) Commercial Policy and WTO Committee on the alignment between the RF legislation and the provisions of the Kyoto Convention on the Simplification and Harmonization of Customs Procedures.
