From July 20 to 24, 2026, the Russian Institute of Modern Arbitration (RIMA) held its seventh Summer Academy.
Stepan Sultanov, Partner of International Arbitration Practice of KIAP, spoke at the Summer Academy and delivered a workshop on Appointment and Challenge of Arbitrators. Associate Anastasia Ryabova, Junior Associates Dinara Ibragimova and Anastasia Orlova, and KIAP Intern Rodion Logvin actively participated in the preparation of the workshop.
The session featured an in-depth review of modern cases from arbitration practice. Particular attention was paid to the criteria of arbitrator’s independence and impartiality in the new reality.
The workshop concluded with an interactive game, during which participants, based on a provided case, independently selected the most suitable arbitrator from a list of candidates and addressed potential challenges to arbitrators.
The main goal of the RIMA Summer Academy is to provide novice legal professionals with a solid foundation of knowledge in the field of arbitration proceedings. Participants attend lectures by renowned experts, including practicing arbitrators, law firm partners, and university professors. This year's Academy program included lectures and workshops on the following topics:
- Fundamentals of arbitration and other ADR procedures;
- Constitution of the arbitral tribunal;
- Arbitration proceedings;
- Arbitral awards.
Rodion Logvin, Intern at KIAP International Arbitration Practice, also participated in the RIMA Summer Academy as a listener, gaining valuable insights into international arbitration and the approaches of leading industry experts.
