KIAP Digital & Smart announces the election of Elena Buranova as a partner of Intellectual property practice.
Elena Buranova is one of the most experienced and successful representatives of the professional IP community in the Russian legal market, joined the team of KIAP in September 2018 as the Head of the Intellectual Property practice. Elena is personally recommended by international ratings WTR 1000 in the field of Prosecution and Strategy and Best Lawyers 2020 in Intellectual property. In 2019 Elena was appointed a member of INTA Commercialization of Brands Committee, in which she will develop practical recommendations for INTA participants on global brand transactions and integrated legal expertise (Global Brand Transactions and Due Diligence).
Elena Buranova became a member of the Committee on Intellectual Property, which was created by a decision of the Board of the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs in October 2019. She is also a member of the Russian Licensing Society (LES Russia) and the Intellectual Property Commission of ICC Russia.
Under Elena’s leadership, in 2020 the practice of Intellectual property was first time ever recommended by the international ranking World Trademark Review 1000 in the field of Prosecution and Strategy. According to sources, Elena “continues to provide sparkling all-around trademark counsel”. Experts described Elena as “being active across the whole of the practice” adding that she is “A talented strategist with particular skill in dealing with complex franchising arrangements, she is always available and business-friendly”.
The rating experts noted that Elena Buranova was able to “efficiently allocate team resources, continuing to brilliantly advise clients on all issues related to trademarks”, and she personally described as a "talented strategist with special expertise in the field of integrated franchising agreements," which is "always in touch and focused on business tasks".
Elena has been specializing in intellectual property law for over 15 years and has been advising Russian and international clients on a wide range of issues related to the protection and enforcement of intellectual property rights. She has rich practical experience in structuring and supporting transactions related to the acquisition, use and commercialization of intellectual assets, including transnational ones. Has the status of Trademark attorney of the Russian Federation and successfully represents clients in the Federal Service for Intellectual Property of the Russian Federation, the Chamber for Patent Disputes, Russian courts and antitrust authorities.
Elena’s recent projects include the support of a number of cases on the early termination of legal protection of trademarks, the successful protection of trademark rights of a German manufacturer of medical devices, the representation of a leading Belarusian brewing company in a dispute with a manufacturer of counterfeit homebrewed low-alcohol beer (kvass), and the comprehensive defense of a large Polish manufacturer of drainage systems in an arbitration court and in the administration of the FAS Russia in Moscow in connection with the violation of client’s intellectual rights by the former Russian distributor.
Before joining KIAP Elena worked in the field of intellectual property, both in legal consulting and as a corporate lawyer. Elena's professional path was formed in the largest international law firms, she also held the position of senior associate in the largest Russian automobile holding.
