Elena Buranova will lead the Intellectual Property practice of KIAP, Attorneys at Law

Elena Buranova, one of the most experienced and successful representatives of the professional IP community in the Russian legal market, joined the team of KIAP, Attorneys at Law, as the Head of the Intellectual Property practice.

Elena has over 13 years of working experience as an IP lawyer and specializes in protection and enforcement of IP rights, both contentious and non-contentious, represents clients in various IP administrative proceedings and infringement actions, and advises on a wide range of transactional and commercial IP matters, as well as on issues of lawful use of IP in advertising, personal data protection and unfair competition relating to IP. Elena’s area of expertise also includes certain regulatory issues in pharmaceutical industry. Has the status of Trademark attorney of the Russian Federation and is authorized to represent clients in the Federal Service of the Russian Federation for Intellectual Property, the Chamber for Patent Disputes and the Intellectual Property Rights Court.

Before joining KIAP Elena worked for 13 years in the field of intellectual property - both in international law firms and in-house. She started her professional career in the IP practice of the international law firm Baker McKenzie. Later she worked in the international law firm Hogan Lovells, in Russian law firm Tilling Peters, and also held the position of Senior associate of one of the largest Russian automobile holding company.

In 2004 Elena graduated from the Academic Juridical University under the Russian Academy of Sciences and received the Specialist Degree in Jurisprudence. In 2005 she graduated from the Academy of National Economy under the Russian Government & University of Manchester LL.M. programme and obtained the Postgraduate Degree in Jurisprudence, and in 2014 finished the postgraduate course “Mediation” of the Scientific and Methodological Center for Mediation and Law. Fluently speaks English.

Among Elena’s recent successful cases should be mentioned representing a major multinational electronics company in the Russian Chamber for Patent Disputes with respect to cancellation of the competitor’s trademark registration, representing a local manufacturer of access panels in patent infringement court proceedings, etc.
