Stepan Sultanov took part in drafting the RAC Code of Ethics for the Parties in Arbitration
The Russian Arbitration Center at the Russian Institute of Modern Arbitration (the RAC at the RIMA) has issued ethical rules intended to govern the conduct of the parties and their counsel in arbitration proceedings.
The Code comprises general Principles of Ethics for the Parties (declarative norms underlying due process) and Rules of Conduct of the Parties (contain more detailed provisions, accompanied by a commentary that uncovers the essence of each provision).
The RAC expressed its deepest gratitude to Stepan Sultanov who became mastermind of creating ethical rules under the auspices of the RAC. He also participated and, as the RAC pointed out, made an invaluable contribution in the creation of the Code.
For years Stepan Sultanov has been actively promoting the idea of regulation of ethics in arbitration:
I deeply appreciate that RAC supported an idea of implementing ethical standards in arbitration. I hope that this Code will be the first step towards creation of the standards of conduct in arbitration, binding for all the Permanent Arbitral Institutions in Russia. I will continue working on creating a joint council on ethics to join efforts of Russian arbitral institutions with regard to this matter.
