16th Annual ICC Russia Arbitration Conference: 2024 Results and a Look Ahead

On 3 December 2024, the 16th annual ICC Russia Arbitration Conference will be held to sum up the results of the year and analyze trends in international arbitration. KIAP, Attorneys at Law, is a partner of the Conference.
At the event, leading experts will discuss key changes in dispute resolution and industry development trends for the next year.

It will be focused on:

• Results of 2024: Issues and trends in international arbitration proceedings.
• State court and arbitration proceedings: Competition or cooperation.
• New arbitration forums: Opportunities and challenges.

Stepan Sultanov, Head of the International Commercial Arbitration practice at KIAP, will speak at the second session, State Court and Arbitration Proceedings: Competition or Cooperation, and share his experience of applying the Lugovoy Law over the past three years. Stepan will review several cases under Articles 248.1 and 248.2 of the Arbitration Procedure Code of the Russian Federation, and discuss trends and prospects for the development of international arbitration in Russia.

"For three years now, we have been actually monitoring all cases under Articles 248.1 and 248.2 of the Arbitration Procedure Code of the Russian Federation (Lugovoy’s Law), and occasionally publish statistics and descriptions of such cases. In this period, there were more than 500 cases; they are becoming more complex, and the trends are more distressing. Despite this, we believe that the international arbitration in Russia has a promising future. We believe that our work will ultimately help to level out trends and return to reasonable court practice", Stepan noted.
