Mikhail Uspenskiy: “The future of the profession is hands-on practice”
In the new school year, the International Institute of Management of the Moscow State Institute (University) of International Relations (MSIIR IIM) introduces a course called “Practical aspects of legal engagement management. Modern law firm”. A course of lectures and seminars is offered by Mikhail Uspenskiy, KIAP partner, in the context of Master's programme in Corporate Law and Legal Support for International Projects.

The programme focuses on practice, rounds out Bachelor's programme, and introduces recent graduates to the way law firms and legal departments of international corporations conduct their daily operations.

The course covers matters such as professional and managerial competencies of a lawyer, marketing of professional services, basic business process modelling, legislative regulation of certain business operations, support for capital transactions, as well as international commercial arbitration. The coverage of the above matters will include a presentation of the latest solutions from the Firm and the legal services market at large.

The course's distinctive feature is the use of advanced training techniques: workshops, business role-playing games, including in English, case studies, and multimedia presentations by guest speakers.

“We reviewed Master's programmes of Russia's major schools, organized the best practices of law schools abroad, took on board the recommendations of round tables and social research into legal education, and at the end of the day succeeded in putting together a truly up-to-date course. “I am confident that the course will provide a strong link between the theory and the legal reality on the ground,” says Mikhail Uspenskiy.

“We take an active part in social initiatives, including educational projects,” add managing partner Andrey Korelskiy. “In keeping with this tradition, Mikhail's course makes a valuable practical contribution to the development of legal education in this country and is certain to make a lasting impression on the enrollees.”

KIAP plans to continue its engagement with MSIIR IIM's Master's programme in 2015 in the context of a course by Konstantin Astafiev, partner in the Firm, called “Anticorruption legislation in Russia and foreign jurisdictions. Compliance and corruption control”.

MSIIR IIM's Master's programme was introduced in 2013 as MSIIR's only Master's programme for Russian law based on the best international practices. The syllabus centres on the use and implementation of the provisions of Russian public and private law in joint venturing. The purpose of training is to prepare highly skilled corporate lawyers as well as legal counsel for international projects.
