Date: 25.06.2021

On June 23, 2021, in Budapest, there was a ceremonial signing of prestigious tournament contract - the World Chess Olympiad 2024. The document was signed by FIDE President Arkady Dvorkovich, President of the Hungarian Chess Federation Laszlo Szabo and Executive Director of the Hungarian National Sports Agency Attila Mihok.

In his speech, Arkady Dvorkovich noted that, despite the obstacles for organizing sports events and, in particular, chess tournaments, created by the pandemic, he firmly believes that there is enough time to prepare and organize the 2024 Olympics at the highest level.

“Hungary has an incredible chess tradition, with great players like Lajos Portisch, Zoltan Ribi, the Polgar sisters and many others. An active chess federation, the support of the national authorities and the beautiful city of Budapest make this place ideal for hosting this important team competition, ”stressed the FIDE President.

KIAP Attorneys at law, as the official legal partner of FIDE, provided comprehensive legal support in the preparation and negotiation of the terms of the tournament contract. The head of the practice Roman Suslov and lawyer Nikita Lutsky worked on the agreement.

The World Chess Olympiad is a team tournament for national teams that are members of FIDE. For the first time, an official competition was held in 1927 in London. Since 1950, the tournament has been held every two years. In 2024, Budapest will also host the World Chess Paralympics and the Congress of the International Chess Federation (FIDE).
