The oral hearing of the 22nd Willem Vis East International Commercial Arbitration Moot took place between 30 March and 6 April 2025. In 2025, 159 teams from different universities from over 40 countries participated in the moot. The objective of the moot is to foster study in the area of international commercial arbitration and encourage the resolution of commercial disputes by arbitration. The problem for the moot is always based on an international sales transaction subjected to the United Nations Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods (the CISG).
In 2025, a team of the Faculty of Law of the HSE University (Team No. 667), supported by KIAP, Attorneys at Law, and a number of other firms, traditionally took part in the main moot in Hong Kong and also competed in preliminary rounds (pre-moots) in Turkey, Malaysia and China.
According to the results of the main competition in Hong Kong, the team received Honourable Mention for Best Written Memorandum for Claimant (David Hunter Award). The team consisted of 5 students of the Faculty of Law, including Artem Gritsuk, KIAP Junior Associate. The main coaches of the team were Vladimir Kostsov, professor of the Department of International Law of the HSE University, Anna Avdulova and Margarita Drobyshevskaya, graduates of the Faculty of Law of the HSE University. The preparation to the moot was supervised by Mikhail Galperin, Professor of the Department of International Law of the HSE University.
