KIAP Attorneys at Law Announce Launching Maritime Law Practice

Date: 22.03.2024

Traditionally, Russia has been one of the leading maritime powers playing an active role in discovery, reclamation and exploitation of the global sea. Today, our country has found itself in a fundamentally new position in defining the foundations of maritime policy, exercising and protecting its interests. Following a significant increase in the number of requests for legal advice in the field of maritime law, and a general lack of structured information on maritime law, KIAP Attorneys at Law decides to start the Maritime Law practice.

The key focus of the practice is:

Maritime Law advisory services:

  • Advising clients on signing of charters, contracts of carriage of goods, forwarding contracts and other agreements;
  • Legal assistance related to declaration of general average, stranding, collision of vessels, arrest of vessels and cargo, investigations and inspections;
  • Support of transactions related to sale and purchase and re-registration of vessels;
  • Legal assistance on maritime insurance (hull and P&I), cargo insurance and other types of insurance;
  • Assistance in engaging experts and liaison with them in the field of navigation safety, maintenance, vessel design, economics and environmental aspects of maritime transportation.

Litigation:

  • Representing clients in litigation on maritime law matters;
  • Representing clients in arbitration courts, including international, on maritime law matters;
  • Support in enforcement of awards.

The practice has been headed by KIAP Attorneys at Law Partner Maria Krasnova, an arbitrator of the Maritime Arbitration Commission at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation (MAC).

The new practice has become a new step towards the best possible protection of the interests of our clients, including companies involved in transportation of goods by sea, Russian and foreign shipowners, ports and insurers, together with experts of Corporate Law/M&A, Sanction Law, Insurance, and International Commercial Arbitration practices.
